This unique home was built to replace an old farmhouse at the bottom of a rural acreage. We gave it a large covered deck from which to enjoy outstanding views of the Purcell Mountains and Kootenay Lake. Since most of the living spaces faced north, we added small clerestory windows that puncture the upper façade on the south side to bring sunlight into the home. Precision-milled clear pine ceiling boards accentuated the subtle curve of the roof. The many energy-saving innovations included radiant floor heat, a zero-clearance wood stove for back up, and super-insulated walls and roof. By combining an efficient heat source, energy saving envelope, and HRV, we were able to create a home that’s very economical to heat in winter, and comfortable year-round.
